Van Diest Medical Center has been the premier healthcare facility in Hamilton County, Iowa, for over 100 years. As an affiliate of MercyOne, Van Diest Medical Center is partnered with MercyOne-Des Moines. With this affiliation, the Board of Trustees maintains complete control of the hospital operations and management expertise, while taking advantage of the cost savings and educational offerings available to larger, tertiary facilities such as MercyOne.

The VDMC Surgery Team has earned the CNOR Strong designation for the 8th consecutive year! This designation was earned by having 75% of surgical nursing staff certified. This designation represents a facility-wide commitment to nursing excellence and outstanding patient care of nursing best practices.

Financial Excellence
Van Diest Medical Center received HFMA’s MAP Award for High Performance in Revenue Cycle in 2021, and again in 2022. This award recognizes the innovative and effective strategies that have enabled our hospital to achieve excellence in revenue cycle performance. VDMC is only the second hospital to receive this award more than once.
COVID-19 Booster Shots - Fall 2022
- The Pfizer bivalent booster is available to those ages 6 months and older.
- The Moderna bivalent booster is available to those 6 months and older.
- The bivalent booster is only available to those who have had the two-shot primary series of the mRNA (Pfizer or Moderna) or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
- Those who recently received an initial vaccine shot or a booster should wait two months before getting the new bivalent booster.
- Anyone who recently tested positive for COVID-19 may consider waiting 90 days after the onset of symptoms or a positive test before getting the new bivalent booster.

Vital ICE provides a platform on which to list you (and your dependents, if applicable) vital medicinal information, such as blood type, allergies, medications, medical history, ICE contacts, and much more. This information will then be readily available to EMS and other First Responders when they need it most.

Guided by our mission and vision, we continue to deliver high-quality, personalized health care services.
Van Diest Medical Center is a fully accredited, federally-designated Critical Access Hospital, licensed to operate 25 beds for either acute or swing bed care needs. Our private rooms are designed for patient and family comfort. The Emergency Department provides two trauma rooms and four additional rooms to care for patients with emergency medical needs 24/7. Van Diest Family Health Clinic serves our patients with locations in Webster City, Jewell and Stratford. Although we have a state-of-the-art facility with advanced technology and modern equipment to care for our population, the foundation and most essential resource at Van Diest Medical Center is our people. This includes our physicians, advanced level practitioners, volunteers, and all caregivers who continue to deliver quality care to those we serve .
