Rehabilitation Services

Our Department

Following the philosophy, “Work well, play well, live well,” The Van Diest Medical Center Rehabilitation Services Department works with home health, inpatients and outpatients of all ages, treating a variety of diagnoses with individualized patient-centered care. They offer comprehensive physical, occupational, speech, vestibular, and hand therapy services, using the latest techniques and equipment. From hospital to home, and back to full activity, the Rehabilitation Services staff works with patients to help them maximize function and return to independence.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy focuses on alleviating pain and restoring mobility after injury or illness.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy focuses on restoring independence with self-care and also specializes in hand/wrist rehabilitation.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy assists patients who may have swallowing or speech disorders such as after a stroke.

Vestibular Therapy

Vestibular therapy treats the inner ear, which can cause dizziness and balance problems.

The Rehabilitation Services Department also has CLT – Certified Lymphedema Therapists on staff. The Rehabilitation Services Department is affiliates with Des Moines University and Clark College to provide clinical internships for students.

Department hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or other times by special appointment. You can contact the Rehabilitation Department by calling 515-832-7735.
