Payment Options

Payment is due in full when you receive your billing statement. We accept the following payment options:

  • Credit/debit cards
  • Online Bill Pay
  • Cash, check, or money order

Please make check or money order payable to Van Diest Medical Center and include your account number on your check.

If you are unable to pay your balance in full, the following options are available:

  • Payment plan with Van Diest Medical Center (see Payment Guidelines below)
  • Extended payment plans through HELP Financial (see HELP Financial below)
  • Financial Assistance (see Financial Assistance below)

If you are unable to pay in full, please call our Financial Counselor and set up a payment plan at 515.832. 7716. In house payment plans are 6 months or less. Extended payment plans are available through HELP Financial.

Please contact our office to confirm your payment arrangements. Failure to establish a formal payment plan with our office may result in your account being referred to an external collection agency. Accounts may also be referred to an external collection agency if regular payments are not made. 

Currently, Van Diest Medical Center uses H&R Accounts (Avadyne Health) out of Cedar Rapids, IA and Moline, IL to collect delinquent accounts.

HELP Financial

Beginning September 2017, Van Diest Medical Center has partnered with HELP Financial to offer extended payment plans to our patients. HELP has over 28 years of experience in offering patients affordable monthly payments for healthcare bills.

If you need a longer period of time to pay your balance, you can apply for a 12 to 36 month HELP Payment Plan. Regardless of the term you choose, your HELP Payment Plan will carry a 0.0% APR during the first twelve (12) months introductory period and after that a low 4.0% APR on the remaining principle balance only.

Van Diest Medical Center offers this program to assist patients, but HELP Financial Corporation is an independent organization and is not controlled by Van Diest Medical Center.

When applying for a HELP Payment Plan, please have your hospital bill available. You will need to provide the following information:

  • Guarantor and Patient Names
  • Guarantor Address
  • Hospital Account Numbers
  • Hospital Balances

Financial Assistance Program

Van Diest Medical Center believes that all people should get medical care whether or not they can pay. Eligibility for the program will be determined by the family's income and number of family members. Uninsured and underinsured persons who are up to 125% of the poverty level may qualify for 100% discount, and persons with income up to 225% of the poverty level may qualify for a discount on a sliding scale.

Persons unable to pay for their medical expenses may qualify for Van Diest Medical Center’s Financial Assistance Program. For more information, please visit the Financial Counselor located within the Business Office or call 515-832-7715.

  4. Following the CMS guidelines, the information in this file represents the hospitals current standard charges as reflected in the CDM. However, it is important to understand that the information represented in the CDM is the starting point in many cases and can undergo additional adjustments through the billing process, therefore, please be aware:

    1. The charge shown is the original charge for the item or service prior to any adjustments that result from applying modifiers in certain situations

    2. The CDM is used in multiple hospital departments and may have different charges for the same item or service and such instances will repeat in the file. For a single chargemaster item, the charge is consistent; however, there may be slight variation in charges for services with similar descriptions for various reasons 

    3. Charges for certain items or services are based on per unit, such as – including but not limited to – surgeries, anesthesia, and recovery which can be based on the unit of time and complexity; medications, drugs which can be based on weight-based dosage, age or packaging; etc.

    4. Certain items and or services have a zero dollar price in the CDM for a variety of reasons – contracted billing services that drop charges externally, no cost supplies, Investigational device or medication exemption items in clinical trials and studies, replacement for a recalled or defective device, explode codes and other system limitations.  Such items and services will appear with zero dollar and is not reflective of the actual charge. In addition, items and or services are sometimes assigned a one penny price to reflect, for example, a state provided medication or drug, contrast items, therapy status codes used for CMS reporting, etc. and Is not reflective of the actual charge contained outside of the chargemaster

    5. The file may also contain CDM items for non-charges (such as payments, allowances, transactions, etc.)

  5. The file is voluminous and download may take excessive time depending on your internet speed
