Payments and Financial Assistance
Payment Options
Payment is due in full when you receive your billing statement. We accept the following methods of payment:
- Credit/debit cards
- Online Bill Pay
- Cash, check, or money order
Please make check or money order payable to Van Diest Medical Center and include your statement number or account number. Failing to include a statement number or account number may result in your payment being returned.
If you are unable to pay your balance in full, the following options are available:
- Payment plan with Van Diest Medical Center (see Payment Guidelines below)
- Extended payment plans through HELP Financial (see HELP Financial below)
- Financial Assistance (see Financial Assistance below)
If you are unable to pay in full, please call our Financial Counselor and set up a payment plan at 515.832. 7716. In house payment plans are 6 months or less. Extended payment plans are available through HELP Financial.
Please contact our office to confirm your payment arrangements. Failure to establish a formal payment plan with our office may result in your account being referred to an external collection agency. Accounts may also be referred to an external collection agency if regular payments are not made.
Currently, Van Diest Medical Center uses H&R Accounts (Avadyne Health) out of Cedar Rapids, IA and Moline, IL to collect delinquent accounts.

HELP Financial
Beginning September 2017, Van Diest Medical Center has partnered with HELP Financial to offer extended payment plans to our patients. HELP has over 28 years of experience in offering patients affordable monthly payments for healthcare bills.
If you need a longer period of time to pay your balance, you can apply for a 12 to 36 month HELP Payment Plan. Regardless of the term you choose, your HELP Payment Plan will carry a 0.0% APR during the first twelve (12) months introductory period and after that a low 4.0% APR on the remaining principle balance only.
Van Diest Medical Center offers this program to assist patients, but HELP Financial Corporation is an independent organization and is not controlled by Van Diest Medical Center.
To apply for a HELP Payment Plan:
OPTION 1: Call the Patient Account Department at 515-832-7715
OPTION 2: Enroll at Help Financial
When applying for a HELP Payment Plan, please have your hospital bill available. You will need to provide the following information:
• Guarantor and Patient Names
• Guarantor Address
• Hospital Account Numbers
• Hospital Balances
Financial Assistance Program
Van Diest Medical Center (VDMC) provides, without discrimination, care for emergency conditions and other medically necessary care regardless of financial assistance eligibility or ability to pay. Consistent with its mission to deliver compassionate, high quality, affordable healthcare services, and to advocate for those who are poor and disenfranchised, VDMC will provide Financial Assistance to individuals who meet the criteria established in the financial assistance policy.
All patients without regard to race, color, sex, age, disability, creed, religion, national origin, political belief, residency, or health insurance provider are eligible for Financial Assistance. No one will be denied access to services due to inability to pay. There is a discounted/sliding fee schedule available based on family size and income.

Hospital Charges & Transparency
At Van Diest Medical Center, we're committed to providing you with the highest quality of care at the lowest cost.
As part of our ongoing mission, we provide financial assistance to those in need and work to be transparent with the community by providing cost estimates and pricing information.
Many insurance providers can offer individualized estimates of your out-of-pocket costs given your health plan design. Your insurance provider may also have information to compare healthcare providers on quality measures.
To get information on cost for the services you have scheduled, please contact the Financial Counselor at 515-832-7716 for assistance with this information based on your individual insurance coverage.

- Hospital Pricing and Estimates
Please keep in mind the information provided is only an estimate of charges and does not represent payments or individual patient responsibility. Van Diest Medical Center’s charges are the same for all patients, but your responsibility will vary depending on your health insurance plan. This information may not include charges for anesthesia, drugs or supplies. Fees for doctor services or anesthesia administration are also not reflected and will be billed separately by your doctor.
Uninsured or underinsured patients should consult with the Financial Counselor to determine whether they qualify for discounts.
