Job Details
The Utilization Review Nurse coordinates all utilization review activities and maintains compliance with regulatory requirements in Utilization Management. Coordinates and conducts initial, concurrent, and retrospective medical reviews on hospitalized patients. Obtains and reviews necessary medical reports and subsequent treatment plan requests to identify the need for ongoing hospitalization. Leads readmission prevention work for the organization and provides supervision and guidance for subcommittee work in this area.
Requirements
- Graduate of a state approved nursing program. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa, or another state with compact licensure.
- Minimum of three years nursing experience in an acute care setting.
- Achieve and maintain required clinical certifications (BLS)
- Demonstrate required clinical competencies
- Experience in Utilization Review is preferred. Conducting medical records review for medical necessity and knowledge in CMS regulations is desirable.
- Key skills include but are not limited to general computer and application experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office products and applications, specifically Teams, Word, and Excel. General understanding of data integrity, analytics, and visualization helpful.
- The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has the ability to interact respectfully and compassionately with patients, their loved ones and colleagues, can work efficiently and effectively with minimal direct supervision, provides functional leadership and collaboration toward a defined target, and demonstrates critical thinking and flexibility in prioritized job tasks.
