Job Details

Plans, coordinates and provides supervisory direction for the day to day operations of the Medical Surgical Department. Shift flexibility required as needed. Responsible for direct and indirect total nursing care of all medical/surgical patients.

Day hours with 24/7 responsibility and coverage of shifts as needed.

Essential Functions: 

  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital matters.
  • Demonstrates responsibility & accountability for adherence to organizational and department values and standards.
  • Completes all required Competencies.
  • Provides management direction for all department activities to ensure efficient, effective utilization of human, financial and material resources.
  • Directs and monitors all technical aspects of department to assure compliance with Federal, State, Local and regulations.                                                                                                                                                                                               
  • Evaluates and monitors educational programs for staff, patients and the community.
  • Develops implements and updates departmental policies and procedures.
  • Promotes teamwork within and between departments and with the medical staff.
  • Demonstrates self-directed and self-motivated initiative.
  • Coordinates department specific tasks.
  • Follows all infection control, safety and general hospital policies.

Wage commensurate with experience.


  • BSN Degree or Baccalaureate in a related field preferred.
  • Graduate of a state approved nursing program. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa.
  • Must be certified in BLS, ACLS, or obtain within the first six months of employment.
  • Must have minimum 3 years of experience in field of nursing.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the Job Requirements document.
