This position is concerned with systems, data and information use to deliver health care services by all types of users to improve patient and staff experience. Clinical Informatics includes a wide range of topics ranging from role-based access and security to clinical decision support and visual images (e.g. radiological, pathological, dermatological, ophthalmological, etc.); from documentation to provider order entry; charge capture, coding and revenue cycle processing support; and from system design to system implementation, upgrades, adoption, maintenance, and optimization.

This position is engaged across the continuum of care including but not limited to interoperability (communication between systems and markets) through use of a variety of platforms, including but not limited to secure messaging, telehealth, Health Information Exchanges and other similar applications.  This position serves as a link with resources supporting Clinical Revenue Cycle processes and various Strategic Pillar initiatives. Information integrity and participation in data governance structures play a key role in the position. This position supports incorporation of third-party solutions to help with workflows (i.e. Dragon, EpicCare, cardiovascular monitoring systems, I Am Responding, Vocera, patient wearables, etc.). Provides other project and department support as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Uses EMR/EHR and supporting applications to setup, enter, process, retrieve and analyze information and solve problems.
  • Supports reporting needs, promoting interoperability, regulatory, quality and other similar programs as directed.  This includes timely and accurate reporting, including report development where appropriate.
  • Approaches problems analytically using good judgements, common sense, and technical knowledge when problem solving.
  • Analyzes information, applies critical thinking, and evaluates potential results to recommend best solution to solve problems.
  • Works well under stress and tight schedules.  Remains flexible to changing systems and processes.
  • Updates application databases and dictionaries as needed.
  • Ensures testing of all updates/new releases for the application for which they are responsible. 
  • Works with other departments to ensure that a consistent approach is followed throughout all applications.
  • Provides effective and timely information to leaders, co-workers and clinical staff by telephone, written form, e-mail or in person during and after task completion.
  • Works with other healthcare team members as necessary to ensure systems are optimized and adopted by end users. 
  • Participates in performance reviews for EMR super-users and others as requested.
  • Accesses resources and works with others as needed to prepare and deliver professional communication/educational materials.
  • Performs end user training and support across the organization.  
  • Supports maintenance of Role Based Security model with periodic review of standards and implementation of access and user security management. This includes but is not limited to onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Performs user security for electronic health record and other applicable systems.
  • Works with IS staff to help resolve technology related problems including hardware and connectivity problems impacting applications.
  • Coordinates hardware configuration, setup and support of various EMR and healthcare process related tools with internal and external resources as needed (i.e. barcode scanners, document scanners, iPads, printers, etc.)
  • Participates in performance improvement activities, including quality assurance, quality monitoring and improvement efforts.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy of patient records.
  • Adheres to safety practices and evidence-based practices.
  • Required to complete all annual competency training.
  • Completes projects and tasks as assigned in a timely manner, as requested and within budget constraints.
  • Engaged in internal change management processes and represents the organization at shared domain and vendor related meetings/calls.
  • Participates in or leads committees as assigned.
  • Provides Help Desk support.
  • Provides off-hour on-call support as scheduled/needed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Week days plus on call/after hours support. 

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Nurse or equivalent clinical background preferred.
  • Associate Degree required; bachelors preferred.
  • Healthcare experience withing the last 5 years preferred with two years clinical experience.
  • Proficiency with multidisciplinary and leadership team communications, workflow redesign experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data management preferred.
  • Successful background in projects and implementations preferred.
  • 2-4 years’ experience supporting EMR/EHR or other hospital software preferred.
  • Education or training experience preferred
