Effectively delivers care to the patient in the clinic setting through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Acknowledges patient’s rights, maintains patient confidentiality at all times and follows HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
Some essential functions:
- Rooms patients, and assists practitioner in safe, effective delivery of patient care.
- Adheres to all safety policies including emergency preparedness, fire safety and utility systems.
- Performs assessment and triage of telephone and walk-in patients; evaluates symptoms and determines essential care required.
- Observes and assesses patient’s conditions and behavior; assures patient safety and stability.
- Administers medications by IV, IM, intradermal or sub-q using the five rights of medication administration.
- Plans and documents patient care using appropriate documentation methods.
- Provides education as needed to patient and family
- Communicates lab results and other follow up information to patient.
- Assists in processing referrals.
- Enters patient charges.
- Assists providers with procedures.
- Provides coverage as needed to other clinics.
- Uses computer system efficiently to access patient information, scheduling and communication.
- Assists in policy review process by reviewing and revising department policies according to policy review schedule or as needed.
- Participates in continuing education and completes all required competencies.
- Obtains patients’ vital signs.
- Promotes teamwork and collaboration within and between departments.
- Complies with department policies.
- Abides by Van Diest Medical Center’s Standards of Behavior
- Reports variances, sentinel events; complies with Mandatory Reporting requirements.
- Adheres to all safety policies including Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Hospital Safety and Infection Control Policies, fire safety and utility systems.
- Participates in quality improvement activities
- Performs other job related duties as assigned and appropriate to the position and department.

Triages patient phone calls/submits medication refills for patients.
This position is based at the Webster City Van Diest Medical Center Clinic location, but may provide support to other clinics in the organization.
Works 36 hours per week (40 hours every 4th week). Four 9 hour shifts and every 4th Saturday.
Wage commensurate with experience.

Requirements
Educational Experience Required:
- Completion of recognized Medical Assistant, LPN or RN program required.
- LPN or RN licensure if not a Medical Assistant.
- Certification as a CMA (AAMA) preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
- Must speak, hear and understand the English language
- Basic medical terminology required
- Must have extensive computer experience
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and public is required
- Knowledge of medical records documentation requirements
- Knowledge of medical instruments and supplies.
- Knowledge of routine oral, rectal and injectable medications.
- Current BLS certification required.
Graduate of a state approved nursing or medical assistant program. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Certified Medical Assistant in the state of Iowa.
Must have a current BLS certificate or become re-certified upon hire. Must be able to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the Job Requirements document. This position requires successful completion of a Physical Capacity Profile screening.
