The Human Resources (HR) Manager guides and manages the overall provision of HR services, policies, and programs for the entire hospital and/or affiliated organizations.  

The HR Manager originates and leads Human Resource’s practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

The HR Manager will assist in developing leader training to integrate engagement concepts into the culture as a primary conduit for increased employee engagement. The Manager will be responsible for the development and execution of all employee engagement initiatives. The Manager will coordinate implementation of services, policies, and programs through HR staff; reports to the CEO and advises and guides hospital leaders with HR related issues.

The HR Manager ensures the hospital is in compliance with federal, state, and labor laws.

HR Manager Roles/Responsibilities:
The HR Manager guides and manages the overall provision of HR services, policies, and programs for the entire hospital. The major areas directed are:

  • recruiting and staffing
  • performance management
  • organizational development
  • employment and compliance to regulatory concerns
  • employee orientation, development, and training
  • policy development and documentation
  • employee relations
  • company-wide committee facilitation
  • hospital employee and community communication
  • compensation and benefits administration
  • employee safety, welfare, wellness and health
  • employee services and counseling

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a comprehensive and sustainable employee engagement strategy
  • Work with leaders to develop strategies that link employee engagement efforts to identified strategic goals
  • Conduct employee focus groups to complement engagement surveys
  • Develop a train the trainer program to enable units to analyze their own data and build action plans
  • Create and/or edit tools, training materials, and resources to help leaders successfully build action plans based on survey results
  • Assist in creating an effective communication plan that will enhance employee engagement activities
  • Leverage events to create and sustain dialogue around engagement
  • Identify and address issues and solutions related to employee engagement


• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required, Master’s degree preferred

• 2-5 years hospital human resource management experience with demonstrated supervisory capabilities

• Professional certification – Profession in HR(PHR) or Senior Professional in HR(SPHR) preferred

• Union/labor relations experience preferred

• Above average oral and written communication skills 

• Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills 

• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop HR staff members 

• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the hospital Board of Directors 

• General knowledge of various employment laws and practices 

• Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other HR programs

• Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality 

• Excellent organizational skills
