Job Details

This position supports Van Diest Medical Center’s mission and vision by providing leadership and assuming responsibility for the general direction of the hospital and departmental activities in conjunction with or in the absence of Administration and individual department managers/directors.

Job-Specific Duties:

  • Unit and Patient rounding as needed and directed to ensure quality patient care.
  • Assist with clinical and nursing tasks to ensure quality patient care.
  • Ensure that accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients and their representatives, co-workers at handoffs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible outcomes.
  • Assign patient to appropriate bed based on diagnosis and bed availability.
  • Assist in managing patient flow throughout the encounter.
  • Answer phones promptly, clearly, and respectfully
  • Facilitate intra-hospital and inter-hospital transfers as needed.
  • Facilitate staffing throughout the hospital.
  • Respond house wide to all codes called, RRT calls and Stroke/Cardiac/Trauma Alerts whenever and as soon as available.
  • Respond to all incidents that occur, document situation and communicate to administration.
  • Assist in obtaining medications and supplies as needed during off hours.
  • Respond to Service Excellence/Service Recovery opportunities and safety concerns as needed.
  • Complete accurate written documentation of shift events
  • Mentor and educate staff as applicable.
  • Assist staff to follow policies and procedures throughout the organization.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Day shift - 36 hours per week.

Wage commensurate with experience.

Requirements

Education

Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree required.

Bachelor of Nursing preferred.

Professional Experience

Four years of clinical experience including at least two years at Van Diest Medical Center preferred.

At least one year of clinical experience in critical care or emergency medicine preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa required.

Current certification in BCLS, in accordance with the American Heart Association guidelines required prior to start of work.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of hire.

Trauma Nurse Critical Care (TNCC) certification, in accordance with the American Heart Association guidelines required within one year of hire.

This position requires successful completion of a Physical Capacity Profile screening.
