Job Details
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for supporting the General Accounting department by performing a variety of accounting duties with precision and efficiency. This position is essential in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information and reports. The Accounting Specialist will process accounts payable and receivable, prepare journal entries, reconcile bank statements, assist in month-end and year-end close processes, and maintain accurate financial records. The individual in this role will work closely with the Controller and other team members to support financial operations and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. This position does not supervise others but requires collaboration with various departments to achieve departmental goals.
Functions:
- Financial Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and financial data entry. Ensure that all financial information is recorded in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Month-End and Year-End Close: Assist in the preparation and execution of month-end and year-end closing processes. Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile bank statements, and generate financial reports as needed.
- Compliance and Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard the company's financial integrity. Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process invoices, verify accuracy, and ensure timely payment of bills. Prepare and send invoices to customers, track payments, and manage any discrepancies.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as required by the Controller or other management staff. This may include special projects, system improvements, or emergency response-related responsibilities.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in business, finance, or accounting required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Excel, including advanced functions such as VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and financial reporting.
- Competencies:
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies.
